Leonida is the series' new state, and the full playable world Rockstar has announced so far. Vice City, previously the setting of Vice City and Vice City Stories, sits inside it and is once again the heart of the story.
The state parodies America in the 2020s: social media, influencer culture, police bodycams, hurricanes, tourism, and the chaos known outside the state as Florida Man. A Rockstar research team worked out of Miami.
After the Extended Look, the press talked about a map that would be a multiple of the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar has not published that ratio as an official figure. Neighborhoods and county names that circulate only in leaks are not treated as fact here.
Rockstar calls Leonida 'the Goodtime State' and divides it into six named regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. The official descriptions put Ambrosia in the heart of the state and Mount Kalaga up against its northern border. Guides place Vice City on the southeast coast, the Keys to the south, and Port Gellhorn on the Gulf side in the northwest.
Rockstar has not published an official map or a size. Community estimates range from about 1.7 to 3 times the land area of GTA V, but they are measured from trailers and leaked footage. Rockstar told The New York Times that the world is about three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2.
