The game is played in third person, as Jason or as Lucia. After the Extended Look, Rockstar described that you can split them: hang out together, or head into the city separately.
Launch is a single-player experience. An online mode in the vein of GTA Online is not part of the November 19, 2026 announcement.
The Extended Look showed how switching works in practice. Lucia base jumps from a skyscraper, then the camera zooms across the city to Jason with Cal Hampton. In missions the two can handle different parts of the same situation, and in one escape Lucia drives while Jason and Raul Bautista fire at the police.
Previews add that in chases one can drive while the other shoots, and that the pair can call, text, and meet up in the open world. Guides say the switch sits on the D-pad, as in GTA V.
